Virgin Voyages is the cruise line of Richard Branson's Virgin Group, set up with the investment firm Bain Capital and designed to feel nothing like a traditional cruise. Every sailing is 18+. There are no children on board at all, no family weeks and no kids' club, and guests are called "Sailors" rather than passengers.
The ships also drop two cruise staples: there is no buffet and no main dining room with fixed seating. Instead, more than 20 eateries are included in the fare, from The Galley food hall to sit-down restaurants such as Extra Virgin (Italian), Gunbae (Korean barbecue), The Wake (steak and seafood) and Test Kitchen. Group fitness classes are included too, and there are no formal nights.
That makes Virgin a strong fit for couples, groups of friends and solo travelers who want nightlife, varied food and a design-hotel feel without children. If you prefer a quiet ship that goes to bed early, look at the other options on our adults-only cruises page.
The fleet is four sister ships built by Fincantieri in Italy, so they share the same layout, cabin types and most venues. In our ship data each one measures 110,000 gross tons, about 277–278 meters long, with 17 decks and 2,770 Sailors at double occupancy. That is mid-size by current standards, less than half the tonnage of the biggest family megaships.
Because the ships are near-identical, itinerary drives price more than ship age. The newest ship, Brilliant Lady, has the lowest median in our data at €329 per night, while Scarlet Lady sits highest at €403, mostly because of its summer in Greece. The fleet table above shows each ship's live status and next fare.
The Virgin fare covers more than most big-ship lines:
The main extras are alcohol, spa treatments and the thermal suite, shore excursions, the casino and services such as the onboard tattoo studio. Rather than an unlimited drinks package of the kind most mass-market lines sell, Virgin uses Bar Tab: prepaid credit for drinks that you load before sailing and spend on board. The line often runs promotions that add bonus credit when you buy Bar Tab in advance, so check for one before you top up.
Standard cabins come in three types: Insider (inside), Sea View (window) and Sea Terrace (balcony), with most Sea Terraces fitted with a hammock. The beds fold into a sofa during the day, and the ships also have solo Insider cabins sized for one person, which helps solo travelers avoid paying a full double fare.
Suites are called RockStar Quarters. They come with suite-level perks such as priority boarding, a dedicated "RockStar Agent" who handles reservations, and access to Richard's Rooftop, a private lounge and deck. The largest suites, the Mega RockStar Quarters, add more inclusions, including drinks.
In our data the median fare is €288 per person per night for an inside cabin, €311 for a sea view, €360 for a balcony and €992 for a suite. The step from inside to balcony is small on most sailings, so price both before you book.
We track 206 Virgin sailings in the next 12 months. 144 go to the Caribbean, 31 to the Mediterranean, 29 sail in North America (Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, the Pacific coast and Bermuda) and 2 are transatlantic crossings.
Miami is the home port, with 124 departures, most of them 4- and 5-night trips to Key West, Grand Turk, Grand Cayman, the Dominican Republic and the Eastern Caribbean. Valiant Lady sails 23 Southern Caribbean voyages from San Juan between November and April. In summer, two ships move to Europe: Athens (Piraeus) has 16 departures for the Greek Isles, Turkey and the Adriatic, and Barcelona 14 for Italy, the French Riviera and Ibiza, between May and September.
On the West Coast, Brilliant Lady runs Mexican Riviera and Baja sailings from Los Angeles in autumn and spring, then 15 Alaska sailings from Seattle, plus Vancouver departures, from May to September. Two Miami-to-Barcelona crossings in late April and early May reposition the ships for Europe.
The Beach Club at Bimini is Virgin's own beach club on Bimini, the Bahamas island closest to Florida. It is the line's answer to the private islands of the bigger brands: a beach, a large pool, loungers and food included in the fare, with drinks charged to your account.
It is also the most common stop in the schedule. In our data, 120 of the 206 upcoming sailings call there, almost all of them from Miami. If you have already been, a San Juan sailing or a longer Eastern Caribbean itinerary gives you more new ports.
The Sailing Club is Virgin Voyages' loyalty program for returning Sailors. Members move up through tiers as they sail more, with perks that grow at each level. The line also runs member-focused sailings: our schedule includes a Sailing Club voyage from Athens in July. Check the current tier rules on Virgin's own site before you count on a specific benefit.
Virgin is the most expensive line in our database per night. The median cheapest fare is €366 per person per night, above Disney (€323), Holland America (€257), Celebrity (€215), Royal Caribbean (€181) and Carnival (€132).
The gap is smaller than it looks. On those other lines, gratuities are a daily charge per guest, Wi-Fi is sold as a package and specialty restaurants cost extra per meal. On Virgin, all three are in the fare, along with basic drinks and fitness classes. Compare the total you will pay on board, not just the cabin price.
Where and when you sail moves the price more than the ship. Mexican Riviera sailings have a median of €274 per night and San Juan €293, against €348 from Miami, €421 for Alaska and around €460–480 in the Mediterranean. The two transatlantic crossings are the best value per night at a median of €155, from €1,777 per person for 14 nights. By month, January (€292) and October (€301) departures have the lowest medians, and June (€440) the highest.
The lowest fare we hold is €1,023 per person for a 4-night Key West and Bimini sailing from Miami in an inside cabin, and that floor shows up in December, January, March, April, August and September. All prices are the cheapest cabin, per person, captured on the date shown on the page. We currently capture Virgin fares from the US market only.
Virgin reprices often, especially its many short Miami sailings, and the cheapest Insider cabins sell out first. The Virgin Voyages deals feed lists the latest drops for this line, and find a cruise lets you filter by ship, port, length and price.
To follow a specific sailing, set a price alert on our plans page: we email you when the cheapest fare falls. Each sailing's price history chart shows how the fare has moved, 30 days free, 90 days on Basic and 12 months on Pro, so you can tell whether today's price is near the bottom of its range. The Virgin Voyages fleet tracker shows where all four ships are right now.

Yes. Every Virgin Voyages sailing is 18+, with no family weeks, no kids' club and no exceptions for children. The line built its ships, food and entertainment around adult travelers from the start.
Virgin Voyages was set up by Richard Branson's Virgin Group together with the investment firm Bain Capital. It is a stand-alone line and is not part of the big cruise groups such as Carnival Corporation or Royal Caribbean Group.
Four: Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady and Brilliant Lady. They are sister ships of 110,000 gross tons with 17 decks and 2,770 guests each in our ship data, so the onboard experience is very similar on all of them.

Yes. Gratuities for the crew are built into the fare, so no daily service charge is added to your onboard account. This is one of the reasons Virgin's per-night price looks higher than lines that add tips on top.
